In this article, we’ll show you how you can create your initial portfolio website in less than 15 minutes. If you want some tips and recommendations for structuring your site, check out our article: The Beginners Guide to Portfolio Websites.
Creating your Website
Select Website from the top navigation menu and then click Start Building a Website.
You will be led through some set-up steps and then will be asked to select a Theme. You can Preview the themes to see what they look like with an example portfolio.
Choose a theme that best reflects your personal style but don’t worry if you are not 100% sure, you can change your theme later without having to upload all of your photos again.
When you have found a theme you like, click Pick this Theme.
The first time you access your website, you will be guided through the first steps.
Customizing Your Site
You will be taken to the homepage of your new site and will be able to edit it using the settings, customize the template or create new pages.
To see how to edit the different elements of your site, see the video on How to change site name, color scheme, logo and domain.
Customizing Your Pages from the Template
To find out how to customize the page, see the article: How to Create A New Web Page from a Template.
Customizing the About Page
The About page is all about you, rather than showcasing your photos, so the layout is slightly different. Double-click on the photo to replace it with one of yourself (see more in this article How to add or replace a single image), then edit the text with a brief bio.
We recommend writing the text directly into the text box or copying and pasting ‘clean’ text so that you can keep the formatting from the template.
Social Media and Sharing
You will see the social media icons at the bottom of the page. Click on one and an edit window will open in the settings menu. Enter the url of your social media pages and click save.
You can remove any of the social media channels that you do not want to include on your site. Just click to the side of the icon to highlight it and then click the ‘trash’ icon from the toolbar.
You can choose to add a share button to your site to make it easy for others to share it. In the Settings menu, select Show share button and the icon will appear at the bottom of the menu.
Creating a New Web Page from Scratch (without using a template)
See the topic How to create a New Webpage from Scratch.
Publishing your Site
Before you publish your site, make sure to Preview what it’s going to look like, and do this for all different screen sizes. You want mobile and tablet users to have a great experience on your site as well.
When you are ready to publish, click the Publish button. If you want to publish a page at a time, you can Publish Page. If you are ready to publish the whole site, click Publish all Pages.
From the same menu you can also unpublish pages.
Click Exit to go to your Website Manager.
Setting Your Website Homepage as Your Account Homepage
To do this, see the article How to Set your Website Homepage as your Account Homepage.
