In this article, we will look at how to set up Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster so that you can collect data from people searching for your site using these search engines.
First, go to your SlickPic account settings and navigate to the Setup Google Analytics and Search Console section.
You can add both your Gallery and Portfolio sites to Google and Bing searches as they have different urls.
Google Search Console
Navigate to Google’s search console (you will need to sign up for an account if you don’t already have one) and click the search box at the top-left. From the drop down list that opens up, select Add property.
A window will open asking you to select property type. You should enter your site url into the window on the right, marked URL prefix.
Click Continue and you will get another pop-up asking you to verify ownership. From here, click the html tag and copy the string.
Now go back to your SlickPics settings and enter this string in the relevant field i.e. if you entered the url of your portfolio site, copy the string into the Google Search Console field under the Portfolio Site heading.
Go back to the verification page and click Verify.
You should see a verification confirmation message.
Repeat for your gallery, using the gallery url.
Bing Webmaster
The process for Bing Webmaster is very similar and it’s important to do this too so you don’t miss out on Bing search data.
Navigate to the Bing Webmaster (you will need to sign up for an account if you don’t already have one) and open the dropdown menu at the top-left of the page. Select Add Site. You will be asked to choose how you want to add your site; import the details from Google or add your site manually.
If you have already followed the previous steps to add your site to the Google Search Console, you can choose to import from Google. Otherwise, add the url in the window on the left and click Add.
You will be asked to verify your site. Choose the option html meta tag and copy the string.
Go back to your SlickPic account and paste the string into the Bing Webmaster Verification Tag field.
Go back to the Webmaster and click Verify.
You should get a message saying you have been successful and should then be able to find your site if you search for it in the top-left dropdown window.
Repeat the action for your gallery using the gallery url.
If you haven’t connected your site to Google Analytics yet, see how to do it in this article.
