Creating your portfolio website is the first step to being recognized as a professional photographer. The next step is assigning a professional-sounding domain name. Purchasing a unique and memorable domain name is relatively inexpensive but essential for your brand. If you decide not to purchase a domain, we will assign you a free domain which includes ‘slickpic’ in the url.
If you haven’t already purchased a domain for your site, you can purchase it with us.
Access the Domains screen from the profile menu at the top right and we will take you through the purchasing process.
Choosing Your Domain Name
In the text field, you can search for your domain name to see if it’s available. Most photographers simply use their name as their url, and that’s a good convention to follow as it’s easy for clients to remember.
Enter your name in the search field (without spaces or punctuation) and click Search Domains. The search engine will show you the available domains with your name in them as well as other similar options. If your name is already taken, try using .photography or .space instead of .com
Select a domain from the available options and click Buy. The price will get you the domain for a year.
Services
On the services screen you can add some extras to your domain. Domain protection protects your domain against hijackers, hackers or other means. If you place a high value on your domain name or fear it might be sought after by others, this will give you peace of mind.
You can purchase a matching professional email address to go with your custom domain. If you expect to deal with client enquiries through your website, it is a good idea to add an email address to your domain purchase.
Once you have chosen any extra services, click Continue.
Information
On the Information screen, you can enter your personal information that will be associated with your domain.
Check the box to agree to SlickPic’s terms and conditions and privacy policy and then click Continue.
Payment
You can choose to pay for your domain by PayPal or credit card. If you have already registered a credit card with SlickPic, you can select this option without having to enter the card information again.
If you are paying with PayPal, select the option and then click Continue to log into your PayPal account You will come back to this screen to complete the purchase.
