Your Portfolio Website
Your portfolio website is a showcase of your best images and functions as the face of your photography, whether it’s a hobby or a business. As a professional, this is where you would send potential clients. As a hobbyist, it’s a collection of your best work to show to your friends and family.
Your portfolio should be highly curated and concise to only include your best ever photos. Consider that even the best photographers may only find one photo they want to display amongst the thousands they have taken each month. You should only consider adding a new photo if it is better than at least one of the other photos you have up there. Replace your weakest photo with the new one and your portfolio will keep improving over time. You can see our article on Ten Tips for Creating a Portfolio Website for more information about this.
Your portfolio website is different from a regular website because it’s about displaying your photos and encouraging site visitors to view as many of them as possible. The interface should be simple and easy to navigate and it’s also a good idea to provide a custom domain for a more professional effect.
If you don’t choose to use a custom domain for your site, visitors will be able to visit it by going to YourScreenName.slickpic.site.
The Gallery
While your Portfolio is where you showcase your very best photos, your Gallery is where you can show all of your photos.
In SlickPic, you upload your photos to the Organizer and store them in albums. From the Organizer, you can apply specific privacy and visibility settings, enable likes, ratings or comments and then share them publicly or privately. Read more about album privacy on our Help page.
Your Gallery can also include photos from other people. If you want to collect photos from a shared event, you can invite friends to upload or email their photos directly to this album.
The Gallery has many useful tools for organizing your photos into albums, subalbums, collections and even photo blogs.
Usually, you will be able to send visitors to your gallery with YourScreenName.slickpic.com and you can use specific share links to send them to individual albums or collections. If you prefer to use your personalized web address for your portfolio website, you can send visitors to your gallery with YourScreenName.slickpic.com/gallery.
In Summary
Whenever you go on a photoshoot, upload the best photos from the shoot to your gallery and share it. Every time you photograph a private event or do work for a client, upload your photos to an Unlisted album and share with the people you want. After a trip with friends, create a group upload album and invite your friends to upload their photos. If you attended a photography workshop, upload your photos to an album and invite other photographers to like, rate or comment on them.
But when you find that special photograph that jumps out, the one that everyone loves and that makes you feel proud, that’s the one that you should add to your portfolio website.
